Concept Note: Bihar Study Circle

The idea of forming Bihar Study Circle emanates from the appalling condition of Bihar and basic loophole of our education system, which, unfortunately, does not maintain an indigenous and localised approach. We know a lot about things in the world but remain oblivious of our neighbourhood and basic roots. We have become global but only by compromising the local.
Historically, Bihar was the land of the Magadha empire and witnessed the birth of Jainism and Buddhism. After years of colonial exploitation, Bihar deteriorated and lost her position. Consequently, the union government cursed the state with ‘BIMARU’ tag. Frequent floods in north Bihar, drought in south Bihar, and the ineffectiveness of development have led to mass migration of human population to various parts of the country. Social differentiation (caste, gender) and feudal domination in the socio-economic fabric adds to the woes.
Bihar Study Circle is an attempt to bridge the aforementioned gap. We, the students of Delhi University who are mostly, but not exclusively, from Bihar have decided to create a platform within the university campus where through our programmes and events, we may learn as well as disseminate knowledge about various aspects of Bihar like art, culture, literature, history, politics, economy, among others, through our programs and events.
Most of us have migrated this far for pursuing a quality education. One cannot deny that whatever we have become or will become is because of our roots only. It is our duty to give back to our roots, especially when there is a pressing need. We hope that this initiative will continue nurturing young minds and will in turn be nurtured by them for years. Bihar Study Circle aims to be an intellectual and discursive forum dedicated solely for understanding and solving problems faced by Bihar.
